Nutrition for Seniors

As we get older, the body mass composition substantially changes. For example, the lean body mass decreases and the body fat percentage steadily increases. The loss of muscle mass and muscle power can then negatively affect your mobility, agility and balance, which results in an increased risk of falling and bone resorption.

Due to the frequency and consequences of nutritional deficiencies and malnutrition in the elderly, preventive measures make a lot of sense.

A potential nutritional approach should aim at maintaining and improving the quality of life in the senior population. The earlier your nutritional problems are identified and addressed with the right approach, the more likely you are to age well as a result. The Metabolic Balance program may be helpful in the prevention of malnutrition and nutritional disorders.

  1. Eat only three meals a day. Do not eat more or less than the plan prescribes.
  2. Ensure there is a five-hour break between meals.
  3. Make sure each meal lasts at most 60 minutes.
  4. Begin every meal with one or two bites of the protein portion(meat, fish, cheese, or yogurt, for example).
  5. Be sure to have only one kind of protein at each meal and a different type of protein with each of your three meals.
  6. If possible, you should not eat after 9 PM.
  7. Drink the quantity of water calculated for you divided through the day (rule of thumb: 35 ml of water per kg of body weight).
  8. Eat your fruit portion(including an apple daily) at the end of your meals.

Enzymes and hormones help regulate your metabolism. They both control essential functions of the human body. Enzymes act like catalysts by setting bodily functions in motion. They are also significantly involved in chemical conversion processes in the body. The hormones produced by your body’s glands, such as insulin from the pancreas, interact directly with many control systems and are responsible for the entire “energy management” of the human body.

Enzymes and hormones rely on the nutrients from the food you eat to maintain their structure and function. If you fail to get these necessary nutrients or get them in insufficient quantities, your metabolism can easily become imbalanced. This imbalance not only leads to weight gain and obesity, but also increases the risk of metabolic illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes.

Therefore, proper nutrition is essential for both enzyme and hormone regulation, and this is where the personalized Metabolic Balance meal plan can help. You get personal dietary recommendations based on your blood values and individual data, including your unique nutritional needs. With this tailor-made nutrition plan, you give your body the food it needs while balancing your metabolism completely naturally.

You start with phase 1, which lasts two days and is the essential preparation for metabolic change. Phase 2 is the strict conversion, precisely described in the plan. Phase 2 lasts at least 14 days but typically until you have reached your desired weight or health goal. You move into phase 3, where you will add more foods to your diet. I will assist and support you and coordinate the duration of the phases with you. The program culminates in Phase 4 – the maintenance phase. You can easily maintain phase 4 for a lifetime by applying the now-familiar guidelines as the best way to nourish yourself. You can use my ongoing support as needed.

If you stick to your plan, you will eat the right amounts for you, mindfully and with enjoyment. You will be nicely full at the end of every meal due to the high-energy foods eaten thrice daily. You will not be starving!  In between meals you drink the right amount of water calculated for you and so you will be feeling clear-headed and focused.  Many participants report that they start to feel the best they’ve felt in years. If you are tired in the evening in the first few days of the conversion, allow yourself and your body to rest and go to bed earlier. It is important to note that everyone is individual, and in rare cases, as the metabolic adjustment happens, some people need a little extra support with hunger. This is one of the reasons why I am there to support you and ensure this is very short-lived. Please always talk about how you feel with me to ensure that adjustments can be made as appropriate and that you get the best results from phase 2.

Your meal plan is so varied that you can plan well in advance and easily organize your daily meals. I will support you with tips and ideas.
